A very warm welcome to Canon Pyon CE Academy. We hope that you will find our prospectus interesting and informative and that it will give you some insight into life at our school.
Canon Pyon CE Academy is an exciting place to be, full of outstanding children, enthusiastic staff and lots of wonderful learning opportunities. With just four classes our small, friendly and caring school offers unique experiences for every child. We have excellent standards; achievement and attainment is high year on year. Our emphasis is placed on offering a creative, inspiring and motivating curriculum which excites and enthuses our children. We have superb outdoor classroom environments with access to a large sports field and forest school which extend and enhance the high quality learning that goes on inside the school.
We believe that learning at our school is fun and exciting, challenging and rewarding. We offer a warm and caring environment which enables children to feel safe and secure as they grow, learn and develop. The foundation of our success is happy children working hard in surroundings, including strong links with the whole community, where everyone feels valued.
Mr Peter Box, Executive Headteacher
We are proud to be part of an exciting Federation of schools together with Lord Scudamore Academy, Sutton Academy, Kings Caple Academy, Llangrove CE Academy, St Weonards Primary School and Marden Primary School. This has enabled us to join a lively and welcoming community of like-minded pupils, staff and parents who all wish to share in a broad and balanced curriculum as well as create really exciting opportunities for us all to work together. Through shared resources and specialist skills teachers, we really are ensuring our children get the most out of these links.
If you have any questions after browsing through our prospectus please do not hesitate to ring the school and book an appointment. We hope you feel inspired to look around our school and meet our wonderful children and see them at work! We look forward to meeting you and your child.
Mr Paul Whitcombe, Joint Headteacher
The Church in Canon Pyon and the surrounding parishes greatly appreciates the links that we have with our school, links that go back to its foundation in the 19th Century. With weekly Assemblies, special services in school and at Church, joint fund-raising activities, and our Foundation Governors, nominated by the Church, we see a sound Christian ethos permeating the whole of the school.
We feel that it is important for our children to be taught and nurtured in an environment that teaches the core Christian values, instilling in them respect for one another and for the world around them. We see this being lived out in Canon Pyon Church of England Academy.
Rev Michael Cluett
When I joined the board of governors I knew very little about Canon Pyon CE Academy. Over the last few years I have learned a lot about the school, but more importantly have developed great admiration for the outstanding teaching and facilities, the family centric nature of the school and the high level of pastoral care.
The last couple of years have seen exciting developments. The school has joined the Hereford Marches Federation of Academies, which has given us access to innovative leadership, high quality teaching and specialist support.
Whenever I walk round the school, visit the classrooms and talk to the teachers and children, I come away asking myself “Why would anyone not want to send their child to a school like this?”
Hugh Patterson, Chair of Directors
Hello and welcome to our school. We are very proud to be part of the Pupil Voice – elected by our friends and classmates.
As members of pupil voice our role is to get the views and opinions of all the pupils and try to improve our school for everyone.
We love being part of Canon Pyon Academy as it is a fun and interesting place to learn. We use the school grounds a lot and enjoy making new friends and welcoming others.
Pupil Voice School Motto
During a Pupil Voice meeting we looked at many different mottos. Our task was to choose one motto which we felt best represented our school and who we are.
We chose the motto Together Everyone Achieves More as in our school we all work as a team and help each other out! This can be in lessons, in the playground or when we are competing in P.E. or sports activities against other schools. We are like a big family!
Together Everyone Achieves More
We hope you will enjoy reading about our fantastic school.
Canon Pyon Pupil Voice
Our school is at the heart of the local community, situated just outside the village of Canon Pyon in beautiful Herefordshire countryside.
We have four modern, well equipped classrooms, one covered outdoor learning areas, and library as well as a school hall. Years R has their own free-flow area adjoining their classroom. We also have a good-sized playing field and use of the wood behind the school for Forest School.
Our own pre-school, Pippins was opened in September 2012, its own dedicated garden and outside play area.

“A distributed leadership model across the Federation was clearly evident and highly effective. The leadership had embraced succession planning. Confidence was evident throughout.” HMI Ofsted September 2010
