The children follow a programme of topics that incorporates the whole range of National Curriculum subjects. They follow a two-year rolling programme. Each topic has a particular bias towards a subject or subjects but also incorporates to a lesser extent other National Curriculum subjects. We place a strong emphasis on personalised learning throughout the school, which means the pupils are closely involved in monitoring their own education.
Children need to feel secure in order to work effectively, so there are two main strands to the school curriculum:
1) Those aspects concerned with the personal development of the child
2) Those aspects concerned with the learning of knowledge and skills
The curriculum offered at Canon Pyon Academy is in line with the National Curriculum requirements for a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum, to:
“promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at school and in society to prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.” (Education Reform Act 1988)
